2008 Cubmobile Extravaganza

We held our annual Cub Mobile races this past weekend in the parking lot of Jackson Elementary. As you can see from the photos, we had a great turn out! 9 dens, 9 cub mobiles, and about 50 cubs mixed it up on a perfect Sunday afternoon. We had a couple of spectacular crashes, some amazing pit-crew heroics, and even got to enjoy a tri-tip sandwich. It was a great day of racing. The cars all looked amazing! Although, at the end of the racing, some paint jobs were not quite in the same condition as when they arrived. But you know what they say… rubbing is racing! Big kudos to all the leaders and parents that helped out with the ramp, running the race, the audio and sound effects, hot dogs, sandwiches, and of course, building all those incredible cub mobiles.

Pack 700 sponsored the Quicksilver District’s participation in the Morgan Hill 4th of July parade which is presented each year by Morgan Hill, Independance Day, Inc. We had great participation from Packs all over the area. This year’s theme was “Rolling to Cubscouting.” We had an armada of skateboards, scooters, and cub mobiles. Several of our newest Tiger Scouts joined us for their first official Scouting event. It was a perfect morning in Morgan Hill for the Parade. The light breeze provided just enough wind to keep the flags moving and keep us cool.

2008 Webelos Camp

What happens when you mix 110 Webelos, 70 parents and scout leaders, and clouds, and clouds of dust and dirt? You get Camp Chesebrough Webelos Overnight Camp! Pack 700, as usual, made their presence known with 10 boys and 7 leaders and parents. We also made some new friends in Pack 780 with 3 of their Webelos who tagged along with us. It was incredibly boring. We only did BB guns, archery, rock climbing, built and raced off-road cub mobiles, learned geocaching, found banana slugs, built camp fires, learned about Indian culture, and earned our Readyman and Outdoorsman Webelos Activity badges.

June Splash-a-Palooza

School is not even out yet and we have had our first summer event. Splash-a-Palooza was held at the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center. It has been cool here, but the weather cooperated long enough for everyone to enjoy a really great day. We even met some new families that are interested in joining Scouts!

Scout-O-Rama Report

Scout-O-Rama was a blast! The Pack 700 marshmallow shooter booth was a great success. We went through hundreds and hundreds of mini-marshmallows. There was a tank leading the flag ceremony. There were rope bridges, zip lines, catapults, iron forges, bb guns, tomahawk throwing, knot tying, wall climbing, trolly riding, archery, and a bazillion scouts and their families all having a really great time! We gotta do that again!

Get Ready For A Summer of Scouting!

Join Pack 700 this Summer. We are looking for 1st-5th graders to join our dens or to form new dens. In addition to the activities listed below, our scouts will also be participating in several of the Summer Camps hosted by the Quicksilver District. Spots are still open. So sign up today! Stop by one of our activities listed below or our booth at the Morgan Hill Mushroom Mardi Gras.

May 21st - Tae Kwon Do Demo, Morgan Hill Community Center, 7pm-8pm
- Our regular May Pack Meeting. This is a great oportunity to meet with some of the leaders and ask any questions you have about scouting.
June 1st - Swim Fun - Morgan Hill Aquatics Center, 12-5pm
- You will need to be an Aquatic Center member or purchase admission. We will have an area reserved for our group.
July 4th - Morgan Hill Independance Day Parade, 10am-12noon
- For this event, boys must be a member of Pack 700 and in uniform. Click on the application link to sign up your boy if you would like them to particpate in this special event.
July 23rd - San Jose Giants Game, 7-10pm
- This will be a great time for everyone. Join us at the ball park.
August 2nd - Park Day, Community Park, 9am-1pm
- Ultimate frisbee, water rockets, crafts, and of course, watermelon!
August 23rd - Family Camp, Mount Madonna
- This is one of our favorite annual events.

Pack 700 Helps Serve Up Breakfast…

The Morgan Hill Lions Club annual pancake breakfast was very successful. Held at the Morgan Hill Recreation Center, flap jacks, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee and juice was served en masse. By 9 AM there was a long line of folks waiting for a great breakfast. Tigers, Wolves, and Bears from Pack 700 were on hand to make sure the dining tables were cleared quickly and made ready for the next round of hungry customers.

Annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast

The annual Morgan Hill Lions Club Pancake Breakfast is this Sunday, April 27 at the Senior Center within the Centennial Recreation Center on 171 W. Edmundson Avenue from 8:00 am to about 12:30 pm.

The Morgan Hill Lions Club is the charter organization for Pack 700 and they also sponsor our pinewood derby. Scouts participate by helping clear tables, pouring beverages, clearing trash, or whatever else that needs to be done. So stop by this Sunday and have a great breakfast and support the Lions and Scouting!

Community Center

USS Pampanito

13 Scouts, and 12 adult leaders and parents of Pack 700, participated in the Overnight Crew program aboard the USS Pampanito at Pier 45 in San Francisco. The USS Pampanito is a Diesel-Electric, Balao class, submarine that was active in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. It is also the same submarine used in the movie Periscope Down! We were given a dock-side tour where we learned the history of the Pampanito. We boarded the ship and stowed our gear into our bunks. And then we did what any WWII submariner could have only dreamed of… We ordered PIZZA! We all stayed up too late. And we all woke too early, as you can tell from some of faces in the pictures :-) Everybody had a great time!
