The County of San Mateo is hosting their annual Open House Crime Lab Tour — a Free event for interested scientists and sleuths.
Please see the PDF for more info, and feel free to forward the notice.
This is a terrific, very well-run outreach event hosted by the County of San Mateo (*please note, Santa Clara County does not run one of these at this time – their crime labs are closed to the public).
The actual tour takes about 1 hour; you’d want to plan on leaving MH right after school and allow 1 to 1.25 hours for Silicon Valley commute. Free parking at the Tower Road County Building.
Several of the activities on the tour apply toward various badges/journeys. Some of the tour activities in prior years have included DNA field testing (using a strawberry!), how to take finger prints, and analyzing a sample crime scene. Lots of fun for young detectives!
Interested Den leaders, please call ahead of time to advise that a Scout den is planning on attending so they can plan for numbers + age groups. The staff is wonderful with kids, and will tailor their tour discussion based on your troop’s age range.
Open House at the Crime Lab/Coroner’s Office; 50 Tower Road, San Mateo, CA. Tuesday, October 30th, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. For further questions, contact 650-312-5306.
Its time for the October pack meeting, count on lots of sugar infused fun tonight. Come in costume and have fun with the rest of the pack.
The meeting is at the Community center at 7pm, tonight (10/17).
UPDATE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. A NEW CAMPING TRIP WILL BE SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER.
Troop 730 would like to invite all current Webelos from Pack 700 to join them on a camping trip mid-October in Joseph D. Grant county park for a weekend full of scout activities.
The campout will be SAT , OCTOBER 20 – –SUN, OCTOBER 21. Plan to arrive at camp at 9AM on Saturday. We will collectively break up camp Sunday morning around 10AM.
Interested Webelos and family will need to bring a tent and sleeping bags. Food will be provided on the weekend. Webelos II’s should definitely make this event. The camp is free of charge for Webelos and their family.
To register for the camp, please email Michiel (michiel.kouwenhoven @ yahoo.com), or call Brett Stocksick (408-710-9079). When you do, be sure to list the name of the Webelos scout and the additional people that will come. Every Webelos scout MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. It is OK to bring additional family members.
Here’s a flyer for the event.
