Pack 700 just completed their annual Family Camp at Mt. Madonna park. What a blast! We had 4-way tug-o-war, rain gutter regatta, an awesome hike, 2 great campfires, fort building, great food, awesome company, scouting skills, etc. We had over 120 people this year! And just so we weren’t bored, in the middle of Saturday afternoon a forest fire caused the air over our site to buzz with air tankers and helicopters.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for a July 4th parade in Morgan Hill. There were over 170 entries this year. We were in the front of the parade this year, so we got to hang out at the end and watch the rest of the parade. We even had a visit from Miss California Pre-Teen Queen, Athenna Crosby. Thanks to everyone that came out and participated!

Pack 700 is hosting the Quicksilver District in this year’s Annual 4th of July Parade in Morgan Hill. Any scouts in the Quicksilver District are welcome to come and join us! Please be in uniform. And bring your unit and den flags. We will only have one American flag at the front (We will bring ours). If your Pack or Troop wishes to participate, please email cubmaster at pack700 dot net. We do not have our line up details from the parade commitee yet. As soon as they are emailed to us we will pass along the information.

Come join Pack 700 in Paradise Park on Sunday, June 7th at 1-4PM for our 1st Annual Water Rocket Derby! This is an open event. If you are interested in Cub Scouting for your son in grades 1-6, come by and construct your own water rocket to launch. And you get to keep the rocket! While your son is building and launching his rocket, you can speak with one of our leaders about Cub Scouting.
We have the launch pads, rocket bodies, pre-cut fins, nose cones, packing tape, launch control system, and water supply. You supply an empty 16-20oz plastic soda bottle. Regular bottled water bottles are too thin and will burst, so they are not allowed.
Pack 700 is currently recruiting Tigers (Entering 1st Grade in the Fall). We are also always looking for adults that may be interested in starting a den at the other ranks too. (Bear, Wolf, and Webelos) All of our other ranks are full at this time. If you would like to come check us out or talk to someone in our leadership about starting a Den at one of the other grade levels (2-6) we would love to speak with you!

Pack 700 participated in the Santa Clara County Council Scout-O-Rama held in History Park in San Jose. Our popular marshmellow shooter booth was back and busy as ever! A huge thank you to all the volunteers that came to take a turn at running the booth. The whole event was well attended again this year. A sample of activities: BB guns, archery, hatchet throwing, snake handling (including a 65lb. python), rope bridges, water rockets, and a good old fashioned game of marbles!

42 scouts from all over the Quicksilver district showed up ready to race at the LDS church on Bernal this past Saturday. Pack 700 provided the track, timing grear, and crew to run the district races this year. With the awesome help of Debi and Jorge Porras from the Scout Store in San Jose, our Comittee Executive, Alan Young, and our MC, Dave Holstrom, we had a great day of racing. The Porras’ hand made all the awards! There were great looking cars, a fast track, Scouts, brothers, sisters, and even some dads, with thier race face on. There were several racers from Pack 700 and our very own Alex H. took 1st place in the Open Class and Christopher D. took home a 2nd place trophy in the Tiger’s race! Congratulations! Pack 700 will be helping with the Quicksilver District Pinewood Derby this year! We will be taking our track, timing system, and all our other PWD ”goodies” and head up to the LDS Church on Bernal in San Jose on Saturday March 14. Registration opens at 9AM. Pack 700 just completed the running of our 2009 Pinewood Derby! Yeah! We had our fastest cars ever this year with 4 cars posting sub-2.5 second runs! We had over 90% participation with 75 cub cars running. It was an awesome day of racing. We also had a record 18 cars for our Family race, and 4 entries in our new “Is your car faster than a 5th graders?” Open Class. There were cars in the shape of a banana, box of crayons, jeep, ipod, TIV (Tornado Intercept Vehicle), a couple of bat mobiles, and all manner and flavors of race cars. All the cars looked fantastic! A huge thank you to all that helped out!

We held our annual Cub Mobile races this past weekend in the parking lot of Jackson Elementary. As you can see from the photos, we had a great turn out! 9 dens, 9 cub mobiles, and about 50 cubs mixed it up on a perfect Sunday afternoon. We had a couple of spectacular crashes, some amazing pit-crew heroics, and even got to enjoy a tri-tip sandwich. It was a great day of racing. The cars all looked amazing! Although, at the end of the racing, some paint jobs were not quite in the same condition as when they arrived. But you know what they say… rubbing is racing! Big kudos to all the leaders and parents that helped out with the ramp, running the race, the audio and sound effects, hot dogs, sandwiches, and of course, building all those incredible cub mobiles.
