Pinewood Derby
Jan 29th 2008
The Pack 700 Pinewood derby is run in January of each year. Pinewood derby racing has a long history in Scouting and dates back to May of 1953 when a dad invented it as a way for his son, who was not old enough to participate in the Soap Box Derby races, to have his own racing event.
The transformation of a simple pine block, 4 nails, and 4 plastic wheels into a sleek racers is both fun and educational. Scouts learn about tool safety, the effects of friction and gravity, competition, and good sportsmanship. Racers can compete at the Den, Pack, and District levels.
